Greed+Lawlessness+Autorickshaw Owners ' tendency to pay less to persons driving Autorickshaws.Just a guess !!

Auto drivers of Chennai are CHEATS. They some how squeeze money from you. They will not put the meter. If they know you are a new comer or not very familiar to Chennai they will take you to all places and demand. You do not get any respect from the people of Chennai especially Auto Drivers. It is because of their greediness.
In spite of Government's so called fixing the rates they charge more and put the blame on Police. They say they have to pay to police and other Govt. officials.
It is all because of total corruption from Chief Minister to the lowest grade peon. Both DMK ands ADMK governments are great failure in controlling the cheating by auto drivers.-

Because of the inflation, 200% to 400% over the meter is dependent on the meter, older the meter more is the adjustment.
In India Taxi/Autorickshaws meters are not up dated. The driver will have goverment issued convertion card for new rate assosiated with an old meter.

They fleece passengers. It is because these guys have a strong union - No one can touch them. They have local political backing as they form part of the vote bank. People do not complain. Anyways whom do you complain too ?
If you are an outsider you're in for more trouble. You don't know the route nor the language. These guys take you around in circles, literally.
The whole system is corrupt.

That is Chennai style of cheating the public !
Better you depend on Public Transport System or CALL-TAXI. Call-taxi will be cheaper than an autorikshaw !

i know that, i lived there couple months, and their drivers are very demanding too, if u ask them to go somewhere, they wouldn't, it depends on their will and mood.
