Well you will have to at least finish your Bachelor's degree, which is typically 2 more years from where you are. But here is what I did to speed it up...... I took classes during every summer, during every winter intersession, etc. So I did not take any breaks from school. I was able to finish in less than a year and a half after my associate's. People will tell you it can't be done, but it can!!!!!!! I graduated in (B.A.) Psychology and went on to get my Master's in education. Two months after graduating with my Psych degree, I started teaching my first class =) (while in grad school). If you are really impatient you can help tutor or work for science agencies to teach afterschool classes while you are finishing your degree. =) Good luck!

You are not going to be hired as a teacher with just an associates degree and if you don't already know what you need, you are going to have to take the two years just to accumulate the education hours that are required for a certificate, besides picking up a proper assortment of classes to support teaching a variety of subjects in the classroom.

There are a lot of requirements to be an elementary school teacher, so even though you're willing to take summer school classes, more than likely, it's still going to take you two years of school or more.

The time will fly by, so just stick with it. Anyway, good luck!

If you can't figure out how to use the resources at your college to figure out how to do this on your own then you ought not to be teaching anyway. No wonder our kids are such dependent thinkers if our pre-service teachrs are such dependent thinkers.

And here's a hint: not going to happen. You have at least 3 semester's worth of upper-level courses - 45 credits - and 1 semester of student teacher. Even alternative paths to certification require you at least have an undergraduate degree already. Try be a teaching assistant.

(PS - George, your certification is usually through your BA - so he/she should only need 3, not 4 semesters).

You really do need a Bachelor's to teach in any public school district. Private schools are not as stringent (and may pay less) In reality, you'll need 3 more years. Two for your BA and one more for your Teaching classes.
