Grrr! Two years after graduating with a Finance degree, the only thing I could get was a temp postition as a scanner. Now that my services are no longer needed, I am unemployed and in the process of collecting. I feel so worthless! I am pondering whether or not I should go for my Master's because I am starting to believe that a degree is worthless nowadays. What should I do? Should I go for my Master's or not? Help!

I am having such a hard time because I have ZERO experience. The positions that I applied for are looking for senior management positions. Even the entry level positions required some experience.

Consider an MBA degree since you already have a degree in finance and are looking for employment in the area of business management. In an MBA program, you usually spend an internship or practicum at a firm to gain experience. There's always a chance that you can turn that internship into a permanent position with that firm after you graduate.

Nowadays, it looks like MBA's with a financial background are often prime candidates for CFO/CEO after sufficient time in the salt mines.

I've had a similar experience. I have a BS in biotechnology with 6 months of experience as an intern in a lab. When I was in school everyone told me I would have no problems finding a good job. I have found jobs, but I can make more money working full time at McDonald's than at some of the lab jobs I have found. There is so much competition for the jobs that people with a bachelors are weeded out immediately. I say go for the Masters. At least it may help to get your foot in the door somewhere.

I'd go for an honest assessment of your capabilities. It was my impression that Finance majors are having no trouble getting jobs these days, so I have to wonder why you had such a hard time finding something; it might have been the approach you took with interviews or something, and another degree wouldn't help that. If you want a Master's, by all means go for it, but my experience is that the people who have trouble finding a job with a bachelor's degree may have equal trouble getting a job with a Master's, and you really don't want to waste the money if you don't know exactly what you need.
