Why did Fred Thompson lobby for abortion rights and help pass McCain-Feingold(-Thompson)?

Here's Richard Viguere, a very important figure in Republican fundraising's expose of Fraudulent Fred Thompson;

Fred Thompson tries to pass himself off as a conservative, but he's just Rudy McRomney lite.

In half-an-hour, it is amazing that none of the Fred Astroturfers have answered my question. This is clearly an inconvenient truth.

This was "made up" by the media to discredit Thompson? I don't think so. Richard Viguere is not mainstream media. He's a campaign fundraising expert who was instrumental in electing Reagan. He's not some liberal media reporter.

Fred's probably not going to run. I don't think he has any interest in being exposed as a fraud. He'd rather not take a demotion.

Richard Viguere is another one of those super Jesus freaks. He, like that entire 'Heritage Foundation' bunch, makes a living being against abortion. Maybe he believes what he says or maybe he doesn't, but it's the reactionary right that signs his pay check. I'm not a fan of Thompson or any of the current wheelers and dealers in the GOP so I don't really care if they eat their own...but it does seem tacky to avoid all the real problems of wage-earning americans and be so centered on sex, war and the welfare of major corporations.

I would not be surprised if those things are true but I am not prepared to accept the testimony of someone who has hedged his bets against Thompson.
