I am there for my friends who are girls. I talk to them when they need somebody, i help them in relationships, i give hugs for comfort, i hold the doors open for them, i walk on the traffic side of the street, and (most of the time) i dont think i would hesitate to take a bullet for them.... but yet 2 of my best friends (both girls) just one day told me i was too "clingy" and just left me. they havent talked to me in about a year now, and i seem to have a big hole in my 'blob of friends' because they just left. and i feel like it has changed me so that im not as much myself anymore... wuts with that?!

I think clingy means unable to function independently. Honestly I think what you were doing was really gentlemanly, personally I can't understand why they left.

Anyway, if you do face these issues in future, just give them some space.

I broke up with my boyfriend because I considered him too "clingy." My definition of clingy is when your personal space is invaded. Sure the guy can be very polite, but when he is ALWAYS there and never letting you do anything on your own, and must know your 411 and where you are, must always be next to you, cannot have you talking to other people without him there - thats clingy. my boyfriend was a gentleman as you sound to be, but he would not leave my side. it was kind of like a dog who just followed. thats my clingy definition, but do not loose your chivalry, its nice to see guys with it :)

When someone wants too much of your time and attention they are considered clingy. A lot of times, girls feel uncomfortable with their guy friends because other guys will not pursue them. It is even worse when the guy friend starts acting over protective, or starts too get touchy feely. Just learn when to backoff.
