My brother and his wife chose to not have children. He's now 55 and is happy. I have a son and cannot imagine a world without him, but, if I had chosen to not have a child, I would be just as happy. It's simply a personal choice.

"A study of households by size conducted by the Census Bureau in 2003 shows that out of 111,278 households, nearly 60 percent are made up of two or less people. This is a dramatic increase from the approximate 41 percent of households with two or less people in 1960.

Another study on family sizes released by the bureau in 1996 showed that more than half of the households in America currently have no children under the age of 18 and that, by 2010, the number of families with no children under 18 was expected to increase by 28 percent."

I think that about 3% of people would admit to not wanting children. I think about 40% of people would be happier if they didn't have children (because of the mental exhaustion and all the responsibilities with having kids etc). I think that about 80% of our population shouldn't even breed! ;)

As for the not wanting to have children, I think it's more males than females 3:1.

I answered a question on this a while back, and I was rather horrified that some people don't want to have kids.

It is their personal choice of course, but I can't help thinking of people who wants children but they can't have them (health problems) and here we are the healthy people who won't want kids.

But as for me, I want kids. :)

And I'd say 3/4 of the answers here might say that they don't want kids. And more females would be saying that.

I'm not having children. I'm happy with that. It was a conscious decision, not because I can't have them.

but I thought most people had kids...
it's not too hard, and the ones that want to seem to be very determined to do so, so they find a way.

I don't want to guess but I do know that a lot more women that I know have no interest in ever becoming mothers. I think that's sad because parenting can be such a rewarding experience. People are just too scared.

I don't want any kids, and I'm very happy in my decision. I don't know any happy people with children.

Yes, I'm one of those people. I don't think I have what it takes to raise a child. I just don't see it.
