Their next 28 games are against teams like Tampa and Kansas City while Boston has a four game series with Cleveland, a three game series with the Mariners and three games vs the Angels. They also play each other six more times. If Jeter says they can come back, I 100% believe it.

This is a math question. The Yankees are 42-43. The Red Sox are 53-34. If the Red Sox continue to play .500 ball as they have since May 28th, they will finish at 90-72. To catch them, the Yankees would have to go 48-29, a tall order (.623 ball) but not impossible. If the Red Sox ramp up their play to something closer to their pace in April and May, the Yankees chances drop considerably.

Whenever the Yanks and Sox are involved, 10 games out of first is, as Ralph Kramden would say, a mere bag o'shells. But if the Yanks want to catch up, they have to start fast after the All-Star break. And the way the Tigers and Indians are going in the Central, it's win the East or go home for the Yanks.

Only an idiot would count the Yankees out now. They play their next 30 games against sub .500 teams. They could make up significant ground in that time. They still have 6 games against the Red Sox.

Pfff.... I'm a Red Sox fan and trust me the Yanks always hav a shot, all they need is to trade away one of the many All-Star sluggers for a veteran pitcher because lets face it there losing all of there games with scores like 10-9 and 13-8, it humors me but it must kill guys like you.
They need a guy like Millwood or Mulder

At least the Red Sox were smart enough to make a couple moves in the off- season

Well, the Yankees are not completely donr but they are pretty close. By the end of the season the Yankees probably wont be in first place but they might have a chace to clinch second or third place. The Boston Red Sox will probably end up 1st place.

It's always possible. In '78 they were 14.5 back in July and still won the East. Although with them playing the Sox only six more times this year, they will need a lot of outside help.

There is too much talent to continue they way its been. After the all star break we're going to witness the most epic comeback in baseball history as the Yankees surge and the Washington Generals (AKA the Boston Red Sox) fall completly apart.

They have a very strong chance of entering the post season.
There is so much baseball left. Joe Torre will put it together and they will make a run.

The pitching has to improve drastically. They will pick up an Ace and get there.
