I need help with my Mario Kart game!?

I am stuck one mission, on level one. What are powerslide turbo boosts?? I have no idea and I really want to get past this mission! :(
Please Help!!

Read page 8 and 9 of the manual.
If you don't get it, try to look for snaking tricks.
Also look for drifting and mini-boost online.

Its easy!
press the R/L button and turnu should see letters like i think
EEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
o somthin powerslides are pretty much sharp turns
