contrary to what others think.... i think it's a great question and brings into the light a bigger more important question.
the bigger question is: why is it that Muslims are willing to fight and die blowing up Americans or put differently how and why is it that they see their cause as just?
and calling them evil and saying they hate us for our freedom is simplistic, arrogant, and myopic.
answering these questions would be the first step in the true fight against terrorism!!!!!

I think there's a difference in being patriotic and serving one's country and the fanaticism many religious groups and nationalities have where they want martyrdom and "fame" for their acts.
People in the military, firepersons, police, emts who serve and die do so honourably, they do live up to their ideals
Think of the words of the man from La Mancha in the Impossible Dream.
However many of the terrorists today are young maluable men and women, educated but fanatical in their religious beliefs because of the conditions they live in. They're programmed and that's the only polite term for it from infancy that to die a martyr's death is a great thing. A great fighter for allah or whomever.
If they actually get out from their little radicalized cells and actually start critically thinking about what they've been told all their lives and talk to more rational people , radical terrorists back away.
Terrorism is NOT honourable , it doesn't serve anyone's God.

Terrorist is a label for a person. A person can be anyone. In essence, anyone can be a terrorist. The label of terrorist is applied when a being causes mass terror on a civilian populace. This mass terror on a civilian populace is called terrorism.
Just because you die for a belief does not make you a terrorist.
Individual people aren't the only ones capable of terrorism. Governments are also capable of terrorism through reverse psychology to keep its people in check. The concept that terrorism can be annihilated off the face of the planet is a fool's dream. Can crime be 100% eliminated? No. The false hope and amount of fear that this concept produces is terrorism in itself.

It may be honorable to die for your beliefs when you have no choice, however it is stupid if you want to get your beliefs fulfilled in the real world. The way they do it is lacking common sense and achieves little when they do suicide bombings.

They aren't called terrorists because they are willing to die - they are terrorist because they are willing to kill innocent civilians, deliberately targeting those without the ability to protect themselves, they use children and schools as shields, they convince teenagers that blowing themselves and others to smithereens serves a noble purpose, they hate and kill and maim just because . . . .
I am not for continuing the war in Iraq - but I resent your comparison of our military to the terrorizers of the innocent!

because those that put on a vest filled with nails and other metal objects and walk into a crowd of innocent women and children and blow themselves up, killing as many as they can,
these are not honorable people but cowards afraid to fight man to man, they hide among women and children, hide in mosques ,in the end they will be judged by there actions they will not recieve 72 virgins but eternity in he##ll where they belong.
And those that choose to call them freedom fighters are feeble minded and sick.

Because they are not fighting on a battle field. They camouflage themselves among civilian populations and just murder anybody around them.
