Well there should be an option in the email service you are using, usually, that allows you to view the header (Show Header). If so you can find out what server/isp they are going through. Most likely you will just findout what the dns name is (some.email.server, etc..)

Then go to http://www.xwhois.com and type in the whatever.com and then WHOIS, Trace, Ping, etc.. the @whatevername.com. You'll get an IP that way, but it most likely won't be THEIR ip, but it will be the mail server they are using. Unless they use Windows Outlook, then it usually will display their servers ip, unless they use a proxy, firewall, etc..

For example if you showed the header of an email from someguy@youslut.com it MIGHT show up like this:

"Received: from some.mailserver.com (IP.ADD.Ress.here)
by something.synacor.com with SMTP; 10 Jul 2007 18:44:34 -0000"

SO it could resolve an IP that way. Then you could just go to http://www.xwhois.com and trace, lookup, etc.. where they are from, and other footprinting or even enumerating tasks.
