I'll say it again:
Washington D.C. needs an enema.
BTW - Pointing out that polls didn't exist in the 1700's doesn't negate the FACT that SINCE polls have been taken, this Congress has had the lowest approval rating EVER recorded.
Therefore the comment is correct when looked at in the proper context. Not that it matters one way or the other. This Congress has an approval rating that is abysmal. And come 2008, we need to run these worthless, criminals out of town.
Remember: OF THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE.
They're to serve US not their own self-interests.

Because the American people lack confidence in most institutions right now, with only the military, police, and small business having confidence ratings above 50%. It's unlikely the change in control made much difference, it had been trending downward for three years.
"Two institutions tested have confidence ratings in the 40% range -- the church/organized religion and banks. All other institutions generate a great deal or quite a lot of confidence from less than 40% of the American population. The five institutions at the bottom of the list -- each with confidence ratings below 20% -- are the criminal justice system, organized labor, big business, HMOs, and Congress."

People are impatient. When the Dems won the majority of the House seats ( a slim majority but not the 2/3s majority they need) and the majority of the Senate seats (basically 51 to 49) the people wanted rapid change. Unfortunate the slim majorities the Dems have in the House and Senate do not give them veto proof power which Bush has used several times recently. The vote today on the troop bill was encouraging though (the measure lost 56 to 41, they needed 60 for a 2/3s majority, but it shows that some of the Repubs are starting to swing).

First of all you have to realize that Congress as a whole never scores high on popularity tests. Every president runs against Congress. Even Senators and Congressmen run against Congress, saying 'Elect me and I'll clean up Congress!'. Polls have shown forever that people hate Congress but love their own congressmen and senators.
Rightie radio talkers like to make it sound like the Republican Congress was really popular and the popularity ratings have plunged preciptiously since the Dems took over and started harassing Bush. But that's not how it is at all.
So your question really is: Why is Congress a bit lower in the polls now than they usually are?
And I think it's because the voters deliberately put Democrats in to stop Bush, and they're dissatisfied with the progress the Democrats are making. Consider that not one single incumbent Democrat lost his seat in the '06 election!
More than 50% of Americans now support impeachment! And while Bush's ratings are not down as low as Congress just yet, they continue to slide. Cheney's numbers -are- as low as Congress.

i think the low approval scores of Congress and the President in basic terms show that the final public is disillusioned with Washington all mutually. lots of Republicans choose to show, stable Bush have have been given to be extra regular thinking the reality that Congress has a cut down score. i don't think it truly is real. right here is something to maintain in point of view. After 9/11, President Bush's approval score shot as much as 95%. Congress peaked at 59%. human beings decrease than no circumstances in basic terms like the seen Washington politicians, that's in basic terms the image that "Congress" creates in peoples' minds, whether or not situations are properly or risky, adult males and ladies are via and enormous cynical approximately the seen Washington politicians. Its lots less demanding to think approximately in an guy or female than the seen a company of politicians, so as as a results of fact of this the Presidents' approval score is principally extra effective, whoever that is.

I think the main reason is that they haven't ended the war here in Iraq, which they led many supporters to believe they were going to make a swift priority. Simple fact is, the democrats in Washington have the simple majority required not to fund the war, which would end the war by default. But they're trying to pander to every side, much like the republicans did the last six years. There's a famous saying that democrats never miss an opportunity to mis an opportunity. This is one time when they should have put up, but decided not to.

Folks are getting fed up with career politicians who operate solely for their own benefit. Congress has a 14% approval rating? You can get 14% of the population to eat "crap flavoured rocks" for cryin' out loud, & those people are the ones who are satisfied. "Time for a change" is what congressional hopefuls promised, and we got more of the same only worse. "time for an overhaul" is what the people need to do with the government before "time for a revolution" happens...

Haven't seen that poll, but as a Dem/Lib I can tell you that they sure talked a good game, but have done nothing to back it up. They are still pussy-footin' around the issues they preached about before the election. With all the tough "politalk" I thought it may be different, but they still remain passive like the dems have a reputation for.

This is the new world, things have changed, and a democracy is usually wat the people want rather than wats best for the country as a whole, so there will be a low approval rating because most people dont think about things other than their personal interests.
