I'm a single gay man in the bay area! I live in Concord and I really enjoy it here. Unlike Lamorinda and Walnut Creek, it has some culture and some color, and it is generally very accepting. The prices are a little lower here too. We have Sunvalley Mall, people come from all over the county to shop there. We have 2 BART stations with easy access directly to Walnut Creek (fun to visit to shop, eat and hangout, but no fun to live in) as well as San Francisco (no transfers necessary). We also have a variety of districts so you can choose based on your taste. E-mail me if you wanna know more, but for the east bay I def. recommend Concord or Walnut Creek if you want a more affluent surrounding. Maybe Berkeley if you like the stranger atmosphere.

Several of my gay friends live in and around Walnut Creek. The Creek is renowned for its after hours activities. Lots of clubs, restaurants, and bars provide happy hunting grounds for all sexual persuasions. And, compared to other parts of the East Bay, Creek rental rates are relatively low.

Although Berkeley and the Oakland Hills (e.g., Montclair District) are great, they are also quite expensive. That's because the areas are highly desirable and very close in to SF itself. So, as a trade, the Creek is a bit farther from SF (but BART accessible), but it is also cheaper and still a very nice place to live, shop, and have fun.

The whole Bay Area is very gay friendly, I am glad to say.

But if he could afford it, it would be nicest to live in Berkely or the Oakland Hills. That's closest to SF too.

Over the first ridge of hills, Orinda, Moraga, Walnut Creek, Layfayette are also very nice. Very beautiful and tasteful.

He can live anywhere he wants in the whole entire Bay Area and he will be fine! It's not JUST San Francisco that's gay friendly!
