I bet just about everybody who answers this question gets it right. But it must be easy to get confused. Do you recall the periods in big business when being efficient was considered being effective. Do you remember the so called Harvard bean counters helping to run Americas biggest corporations, especially the car companies and how they nearly brought disaster. And how after that, every company had to have an efficiency expert. I was just smart enough not to hire one, but I spent a lot of time going to lectures. It wasn't all bad. I learned some things. But I made them work because I didn't get confused. Sometimes efficiency wins out. Consider the Just in Time theory that made Japanese manufacturing so big until American industry caught on.
You still have to be effective in search of excellence.

I wouldn't mind being both because I want to have it all. I would like to be efficient because that way I could get all my work done and then have more time for relaxation and play. But I would also like to be effective. That way I would be able to bring about change successfully and thus gain respect in the eyes of others The word by the way is spelled efficient, not effecient, people.

Effective. It doesn't do much good to be effecient if you are not effective.

Tough one, as being effective is most satisfying, but then you still possibly have some work left to do...while being efficient, your work is done and you have more time to yourself, but are you fulfilled???? I'd go with effective. The work will get done, eventually.
