Wanted to come to work at 1pm, cause we are having visitors at home and i haven't seen them for months. Manager wants me to start work at 12 so the others girls can have their lunch break.

Not fair, the visitors might not come before 12.

Last week on Friday i didn't even have a lunch break because we where short of staff, and one girl went home sick.

I could have chose to take the whole day off. Should i tell her it's not fair, i want to start work at 1pm.

If I was your boss I would tell you to take a running jump (and I'm all for flexibility in the workplace).

Your attitude just sucks. Your manager has given you valid reasons for coming in at 12.00 and last week you were short of staff due to sickness, so you had to give up your lunch break - big deal

What happened to team cohesiveness and a bit of company loyalty?

By the way - there is nothing as unprofessional and immature as stating your case as "it's not fair"

If you're not expecting them until noon, then you should go into work in the morning and leave around 1:00. That would let everyone get their lunch break and then you would have the rest of the afternoon to spend with you visitors.

When something is very important to you, Don't let your job make the decision for you.
Next time don't ask. Call off sick, don't overly explain why, none of ther business. Just make sure you don't hardly ever call in sick so that you can feel justified in doing it once in a while.
This is your LIFE so you decide if you need to make time to spend with loved one's...
Your company has gotten along without you for years, so one day off won't matter. It's not life or death, if it was, they would have built in backup. So don't try to be helpful by working 1/2 day, cause they don't appreciate it now do they?.
Take your lunch, If they need coverage that badly, they need to make sure they have enough hired to cover this stuff, seriously -- they are just worried about making the most profit for themselves, i doubt they fairly compensate you compared to the money they save by keeping it so tight you have to miss lunch!

Call some of the other girls or guys at work that aren't scheduled tomorrow and see if they'll switch a day with you.

Management doesn't usually care who works as long as the shift is covered.

Tell the employer what is happening, let them be the judge. I would say, ask the visitors if they can come earlier or later. I think you have a responsibility to your employer. Ask the emplyer if you can come in at one. But if they say no, show up on time.

You've got two choices here:

1. Don't work at all and suffer from the lack of money and the risk of being let go.

or

2. Deal with it and go in at 12.

Ultimately the choice will be yours. It's a job it was designed not to be fair, just or fun that is why they pay you to put up with their s**t. But on the other hand you are never promised a future so who knows if you'll ever be able to see them again??

call them at 11:50 and tell them your car broke down and you're waiting on your uncle to pick you up and take you to work.

then arrive at 1pm and then not only will you get away with it, you will most likely get some fake sympathy

so you want to be a spolied brat and force other people to work through lunch so you can see someone - just because someone else was physically ill and had to leave??

no, you should NOT tell her it isn't fair.

you need to take this situation as a lesson, when you have something important to do, CALL OUT!
