x^5.4 is the square of x^2.7

When you square a number already raised to an exponent, you multiply the exponent times 2.

(x^2.7)^2 = x^(2.7 * 2) = x^5.4

2 < x^2.7 < 3 square everything to get
? < x^5.4 < ?

(2^2) < x^2.7 < (3^2)
4 < x^5.4 < 9

2 < x^2.7 < 3
x^5.4 = x^(2.7*2) = (x^2.7)^2

So square the entire inequality:
2^2 < x^5.4 < 3^2
4 < x^5.4 < 9
