When ;my neck really hurts (and my back) I go to a acupressure place (not acupunture, thats where they use needles). Acupressure is hitting all the pressure points. It is not a relaxing massage, but kinda painful, but the next day I feel wonderful. They know where to push and massage.

First ,we need to know if you have had an injury. ??? If so , you do need a doctor. Especially if you had whiplash. IF NOT- and you are just tight and stressed- take a warm/hot bath- add epsom salt-like 2 cups-no longer than 30 min. soak. Drink plenty of water- Stretch neck muscles, use hand to press head forward, to the side, diagonally...etc. Breath deep with each stretch. Also, use your hand and massage muscles-be gentle at first and loosen up the muscles- then you can press deeper on the tight spots. Last- gently rotate your head-around-slowly.Rest. Adding Arm rotations and stretches will also help- if problem persist - see a Massage Therapist who is well trained and may also know acupressure. I hope this helps.

Sounds like someone has tension in his neck muscles and shoulders.
Can you get a friend to massage the knots out?
Can you heat a damp towel in the microwave and lay it across your shoulders and back of the neck?
Can you stand in the shower with the strongest spray of warm water thrumming onto your muscles?
Do you have access to a heating pad?
Can you lay quietly and not read, play video games, be on Y!Q&A until the knots go away?
Easier to try this than pay a doctor... unless it gets bad enough for you to seek medical care. If you think it worsens, by all means see a doctor.
Be well, stay happy.

I have the same problem and it lasts for months at a time sometimes. Sometimes I see a chiropractor which seems to help temporarily. If you have an anti inflammatory, Tylenol, or Robaxacet you could take it. Perhaps try some icy-hot or Bengay. Try massaging the muscles in your neck. Try a hot bath. All these things work to some degree temporarily for me. Good luck!
