Astrology is real, because real people practice it. However, it has absolutely no scientific merit whatsoever.
Long ago, astrology and astronomy went hand in hand. They were the study of the stars, and the mystery of the stars. Today, however, stars are not mysterious. We understand them very well, and we know that they do not influence people's personalities at birth.
Astrology as it exists today takes one of two forms:
1. Harmless (and useless) advice in newspapers/websites
2. Personal readings by "qualified professionals", who are really con artists.

Mathematically, the square root of -1 is not real. Yet it works, otherwise I would be sitting in the dark and not typing into my computer right now. Mathematicians and Electrical Engineers use this 'imaginary' number all the time so being real and working perhaps don't go hand in hand all the time.
Astrology is real in the sense that it is a real concept that people study and use.
Astrology is only as good as the Astrologer and there are many types of astrology, some of which can be unfallible in their vague wishy-washyness.
It is difficult to 'prove' astrology and many attempts to research its validity have failed, but in my view a lot of this has to do with the fact that the people who design the experiment are actually extremely ignorant of what exactly astrology is and what it is they are trying to prove or discount.
Some research has been done into Astrology and commodities markets and some degree of statistical significance has in fact been shown. I am informed that many pension funds in America are using Astrology to ASSIST with their investment analysis.
The thing about this type of research is it is much more clear-cut, simple and well defined: the market is either going to make a turn or it is not and if this coincides with cycles of planets such as Venus and Mercury, we can start to do the math as they say.
A gentleman by the name of W.D. Gann was the only person to predict the depression of the 1930's - no-one would believe him. He did this using planetary cycles.
It is a fascinating subject when combined with much discrimination!!

I just had my horoscope done by the best person I have ever spoken with. I never really believed in internet readings, but I had 2 job offers and an emotional crisis and Ms. Ellen helped me avoid disaster.
Here is the link to the site I found her on http://youreasylink.com/Free_Astrology_Reading.
Cannot recommend these guys enough. I have thrown away money on both in person, telephone and internet readings and each time I have needed a consultation with them, the insight was amazing and I could tell they really cared about me as a person, rather than wether or not my credit card would be approved.
I missed out on this, but it seems like they are running a free introductory promotion right now. So that makes it all the better. I did not get any free minutes but the advice was so solid I thought I would share.

No it is not real. Under scientific testing conditions it fails in everyone of it's predictions; doing even worse than chance. How would stars and planets control our fate anyway?

Astrology was the forerunner of modern astronomy in the west.
Isaac Newton believed in it, and he also invented Calculus as a branch of mathematics.
I think it works.
Carl Sagan, thought it was all BS.
Good luck.
