I have two computers. A laptop and a desktop. They are in different rooms. I would like to set them up on a home network and be able to print from my laptop. My printer is attached to the desktop. I have a router and a modem. I can go online wirelessly through the router on my laptop. My desktop is wired to the router. How can I set it up so that I can print from my laptop to the printer, wirelessly? It would be nice to share some files too. Step by Step directions would be best. Thanks.

Make sure all these steps are done on both computers.
1) Set the Workgroup Name to the exact same name
2) Name the two computers different names
3) Enable file and printer sharing
4) Make sure the two IP addresses of your networked computers are in the exceptions list of your firewall program
5) Enable sharing on the printer you want to use as a network printer.

That should do it....

just go to windows help, and type "sharing files" or "sharing printers" in the search box.

You essentially need to enable sharing on the printer settings on the desktop, and then find the printer on your local network.

To share files, you will want to turn file sharing on, but only for specific folders (like music) that you want to share.

There is a chance that someone may be able to find the printer or shared folders on your network (if security is poor on your router/computers), so save yourself some worry and make sure it's nothing vitally important.
