I say dungeons crab is my favorite of all time. I much prefer it over lobster. I loved it steamed, or basically anyway you can eat it i like. My favorite is to steam it in coconut milk, ginger. cilantro and other spicy Asian spices and serve it with jasmine rice. I always cook two or so for thanksgiving there is never anything left. I love to eat it with my hands.

It's food of the goddesses, and I will eat it any way it is prepared! I agree that simple is best because it is so sweet and delicate, just plain, or in a salad without an overwhelming dressing (try the Dungeness Crab Louie at the Four Seasons!), or in a crepe with just a little mild minced green onion, sweet diced cherry tomato and mild cheese. I think the flavor of the crab gets lost in spicier dishes like cioppino or thai food.

But I have a new favorite dungeness crab recipe, and that is in sushi. Had some this past winter in a sushi roll made very simply with rice, avocado, and dungeness crab leg lightly cooked tempura style, and it was awesome!

Absolutely! The best way is steam without anything but the natural flavors of the crabmeat....but if you want some variety:

1) I have had at the chinese restaurant where they fry it up with ginger, garlic and soy sauce and that is really good too (plus the gravy goes over the rice).

2) Boil with creole seasoning and add clams, potatoes, crab and mussels for a great hands on east coast/southern treat.

3) grill over BBQ while its wrapped in corn husk and also foil (keep moisture in and BBQ flavor goes into the meat)

Steamed, cracked with my hands, and dipped in lemon garlic butter. Or in a chowder. Crab stock is so excellent. And crusty bread with a dipping sauce, and a green salad.

Love it.

Go to Fishermen's Wharf. Go to one of the stand and eat out there. See your fresh crab being broiled then prepared expertly by the guy. He will cut and break and lay them precisely so you can eat it with your bare hands.

To eat a Dungeoness Crab outside at Fishermen's Wharf, overlooking the SF Bay, with my clam chowder in bread bowl, is one of the most wonderful simple pleasure in life.
