Diplomacy... When a diplomat says yes, he means maybe. When he says maybe, he means no. When he says no... then he is not a diplomat.

Anyway. A diplomat tries to use his communication skills to make other people accept his point of view. He will also take into account the other person's point of view, and will probably need to compromise. He might not give the other some informations, only the information which he deems to be relevant to the situation.

Diplomacy is the art and practice of conducting negotiations between representatives of groups or states. It usually refers to international diplomacy, the conduct of international relations through the intercession of professional diplomats with regard to issues of peace-making, trade, war, economics and culture. International treaties are usually negotiated by diplomats prior to endorsement by national politicians.

In an informal or social sense, diplomacy is the employment of tact to gain strategic advantage, one set of tools being the phrasing of statements in a non-confrontational, or polite manner.

Diplomacy is the ability to find common ground where all side can agree on a compromise. A reasonable process to get along. The US has no Kissinger now but we need a man with the skills to do the kind of job he has done.

Diplomacy is the art of true deception!..To be a good Diplomat, you must be able to lie full in the face of someone, tell them of your peaceful intentions toward them, and have them totaly convinced that you can be trusted, while at the same time, your bombing their hen houses and invading their public lavatorys!..Now that is the true art of Diplomacy!..You must have two mouths, and be able to speak from both at the same time, You must be able to demonstrate that up is down..Left is right..In is out and black is white!..And you must be able to do all of this, without a hint of corruption!..Unless you are speaking to the corrupt!..In which case, the odd bribe or two is perfectly acceptable as a 'corporate loan' or 'international emergency aid'!..The art of the Diplomat includes all of this, and the right to be called..Your Exellency!..

"Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell in such a way as they will actually look forward to the trip" That pretty much sums it up in a metaphoric sense.
