It's occurred to me that in this world where everyone tries to be politically correct all the time, the truth is, A LOT of stereotypes are just plain true. But people get mad when you say so. I think that people need to admit to themselves that a lot of stereotypes are true. Why else would they exist? People don't just assign random attributes to groups of people. They have to come from somewhere. Right? What makes stereotypes wrong is when people assume a stereotype applies to ALL people. For example, I think it's true that many Asians can't drive, but to meet an Asian who I've never seen drive and assume he can't drive- that would be wrong. Many black people can dance- but that doesn't mean they ALL can dance. So, what do you people think? Am I right or wrong in your opinion?

You're absolutely right. Stereotypes wouldn't exist if there weren't some truth in them.

But when people take these stereotypes too seriously and assume something about a person because they fit into a certain group, they are making themselves look ignorant.

That's the point of a stereotype -- to naturally assume that ALL people apply to a particular trend. Therefore it is intrinsically wrong.

Yea, of course many of them have some truth. But like you said you can't generalize. That's how a lot of them form. They are stereotypes, however, because they generalize.

Yes, that's how they were started. Though they don't apply to everyone in the "group".
