In case you are wondering why the answers are all different, it is because you aren't being specific about what you are referring to when you say memory stick. Typically this refers to RAM, which case the computer would be considered your memory reader.

Anyway, you probably mean a flash drive. No they don't need a reader but they do need a partition much like a hard drive.

If the problem is that you are connecting it to your USB and then not seeing it, then hit start->run then type diskmgmt.msc and click ok. This will take you to the disk manager and you should be able to make a partition and format the drive.

I think most of them come preformatted though these days, anyways, hope this helps.

A Random Access Memory stick, requires you to open up your computer and place it into a slot.

it shouldnt, just stick it in the usb drive
