This isn't a proof, unless a = 1.

Proof that a=1:

Multiply everything by a:
a^2 + 1 = 2a
a^2 - 2a - 1 = 0
Factor:
(a - 1) (a - 1) = 0
The statement is only true if a=1.

Your statement is false. 4 + 1/4 > 2.
Do you want to solve the equation a + 1/a = 2?
If so, multiply each term by a
a² + 1 = 2a
a²-2a+1=0
(a-1)² = 0,
so a = 1.
Finally, if a is positive, one can use calculus to
prove that a + 1/a has a global minimum at a=1.

a/1 + 1/a = 2/1

multiply the entire equation by a

a^2 + 1 = 2a

a^2 - 2a + 1 = 0

(a - 1)(a-1) = 0

a = 1

check

1 + 1/1 = 2

1 + 1 = 2

I assume you're being asked to solve the equation for a, otherwise the problem makes no sense.

a + 1/a = 2
Multiply everything through by a, to get:
a^2 + 1 = 2a
Rearranging:
a^2 - 2a + 1 = 0
Factoring:
(a-1)(a-1) = 0
This is only true when a = 1, so that's your answer.

a + 1/a = 2
a must be 1.

Proof (substitute a for 1):
1 + (1/1) = 2
1 + 1 = 2

Your question is in the wrong context or actually in no context at all. You need to specify what a is. If it is an integer, I can prove to you that there is no case where that is true. Please specify under what conditions you are trying to prove this.

Wrong.
Ex:
a=5
5+1/5=5.2

i cannot help you.

if you mean a=1 (because a is the first letter of the alphabet), a+1/a=1+1/1=1+1=2

so a+1/a=2

im assuming you want to solve for 'a'? cuz the formula isnt ture when a= any number.

mulitpy through by 'a'

a^2 + 1 = 2a

a^2 - 2a + 1 = 0

use the quadratic formula...

thats what i'd try
