Assuming you want to take these drugs for their intended purposes: For anxiety, instead of Xanax you can try meditation, exercise, deep breathing, etc. For pain, instead of vicodin or oxycodone there are other prescription painkillers, and of course otc pills like Tylenol, aspirin, etc. There may be non-medicinal ways to relieve the pain, depending on what type of pain it is.

If you are just looking for a downer, alcohol is legal and widely available. Although this will never truly solve the problem of why you need downers, this is something you will have to force yourself to face.

St. John's wort and 5-HTP are excellent for improving mood are eliminating depression.

Essential oils such as eucalyptus and sage are outstanding pain relievers when applied topically.

Niacin, B6, zinc are said to help. Proper diet does wonders and get rest. As for taking drugs, just quit, the ones you mentioned are not nice for your overall health.
