Because Iraq was aiding terrorists including Al quaida, who were responsible for the September 11th attack. Iraq was also known to be in possession of chemical and biological weapons and were working on nuclear capability, which is a threat to the US.
Oh and Osama Bin Laden admitted to the attack on 9/11 on video tape that was sent to al jazzera, which is a middle eastern news network, and the video was prod casted worldwide.
To Nancy, I have several friends that are in the military and are over in Iraq, for one they cant tell anyone whats going on or why they are over there. But the soldiers over there, knew what they were getting into when they enlisted, no one forced them to join, the US has not had the draft since Viatnam.

Nothing at all. They're doing it for oil and because of Al Quaeda which is not IRAQ. Killing innocent Iraqi civilians because of the actions of terrorist....which we're not even sure if really had anything to do with the attacks on America in 9/11.

Are you all mad? I don't agree with the war either, but at least I listen to the news. It started before desert storm back in 1991. I was pregnant at the time. I remember this was the first time we saw war on TV live. It was very scary watching scuttle missles blowing up and reporters live at the front lines. Bush tried to kill Sadam then, but it didn't happen, he got away or something and Clinton became president and tried to smooth things over. Then Bush Jr. became president and the Twin Towers destruction happened, so Bush Jr. immediately went to war against all tyrants including Sudan. The people in Iraq were very happy and pushed down Sudan's statue jumping all over it. They put Sudan to death. We had the trials. He was treated better with us than his own people. They voted in a new leader. But there were two muslim tribes and one doesn't like the other, so they continued the war and we stayed to keep them from killing each other. We are now so wrapped up in their war it's difficult to say if we will ever be out. I have 3 sons, and I don't want my boys to go to war. My parents came to America to flee war in Europe after WWII. The USA is now even stricter on its laws to leave our own country, so if a draft does ever starts, just try to go to Mexico or Canada. Better get your passport now.

Before the USA invaded Iraq it was a feeble country ruled by a bloodthirsty tyrant.
Now it is a feeble country ruled by thousands of bloodthirsty tyrants.
Saddam hated Al Qaeda and they did not dare to enter his country. Now he has gone they are there in force and only too pleased to have plenty of American targets.

George Bush is a businessmen who accepted large amounts of money from large companies when he was running for President. One of thye previously mentioned companies is called Halliburton. After George invaded Iraq, he promptly started accepting bids for the "rebuilding of Iraq". Guess who won the bid? You got it, Halliburton. They were given billions of dollars by our government to rebuild Iraq (they've done a fantastic job, right?). George Bush attacked Iraq to accomplish the only thing that matters to the cold-hearted bastard, and that is to make money to line his own pockets and those of his friends. He is willing to sacrifice Americas greatest resource (youth), for americas most troublesome (money, gas). Now, we are again in the same exact situation that we were in during Vietnam. We have a failing puppet government in a country so depleted of structure that it will surely fail. And the thing that hurts the most is that when we leave (which we will) and when that government collapses (which it will), it will be replaced by an extremist muslim regime. Sure Hussein was a war criminal and excecuted people by the hundreds, but he was not a muslim extremist! In fact, he was one of very few non muslim extremist leaders in the area. Good job George!

In response to leelee: There are not two tribes of muslims, there are two branches in Islam, with different philisophical views.

Regardless of your political briefs, I can not understood that five years after the start of the war, you are just now asking this question. Where have you been? Are you stupid or something?

Why don't you write to one of our courageous soldiers over there. I'm sure he would love to fill you in on what is REALLY going on over there.

Who are you listening to? The news media? Are you dumb or just a fool?.
