Mostly likely you will get a fine and probabtion. No jail time (unless you screw up probabtion) Also if you opt for a jury trial and lose the state will give you the maximum it can. If you get a lawyer he will plea bargin get you the least amount of time possible.

Hi,
"hello"
I decided to do a very stupid thing to a friend and put a fake bomb threat on his car.
"ohhh, I'm glad is wasn't a real one!"
He got scared and called the police and cause a great amount of hastle for the state. Police, fire trucks, and bomb squad showed up.
"ohh, they take these things very seriously ya know!"
My friend did not press charges
"well, it's a good thing you knew him! You really shouldn't go around putting fake bombs in cars of people you don't know!"
and the cops didn't arrest ME. The next day the cops showed up at my house and I was arrested and bailed out for $500. I have court next week. I got charged with Misdemeanor and worry about what will happen to Me at court. please respond! (what kind of punishment will I serve. I have a clean record and never been in trouble with the law before.)
"MM, since this is your first offense and no charges were filed, I would guess that you might be put on probation for 6 months to a year or so and socked with a great big fine.
Oh, and don't listen to that friend of yours any more, he's a bad influence."

if your bail was only $500 then you'll get community sevice and maybe 1 yr. probation.
the judge might give you a scare or something to make you understand that these types of jokes aren't found too funny.
The lawyer will cost you more than you'll ever pay. Use the public defender, and admit guilt.
Your 1st day in court is called an arraignment. Here, the charges will be read to you and you'll enter a plea. They may sentence you there and then if you waive time for sentencing. (ask you pub. defender about it) if not, you'll be given a date to return in a hearing that'll last 5 minutes tops.

You should hire a lawyer. If you can't afford one, one will be appointed to you by the court. However, if you're charged with a misdemeanor, you might not be give a free lawyer if there's no prison time.
However, that said, you have the right to remain silent, plead not guilty, and make the state prove each and every fact to each and every element of the crime as charged beyond a reasonable doubt and moral certainty.
That means, say nothing for anything you say will be used against you in a court of law.
Oh. And hire a lawyer. Why mess up your life?

Yeah man, get a lawyer, DONOT get a public defender, they work for the state and they work WITH the people who want to prosecute YOU. .. A good lawyer can save your nads and keep you from having to go through all those headaches and loops and hastles of dealing all that probation and court detention crap. I used a pd on my first misdermeanor and i regreted it.

You didn't give your age but if over 18, I'd get a lawyer. They can get it reduced or thrown out.I believe you already learned your lesson. [It's a bugger when you can't have fun anymore!] We all live and learn. [Been there....] Luck to you.
