Al Qaida is back to operational strength not seen since 9/11, having rebuilt and rebounded with its epicenter along the Afghan-Pakistani border.

IItrix, you're right! Look at all the Kool-Aid being dribbled all over the floor! Hope they have the decency to clean it up, at least.

Couple of replies before I choose best answer...
MacKenzie - Whether leaked or not is beside the point. Was Iraq about defeating Al Qaeda, as Bush/Cheney have long said, or wasn't it? Keeping Al Qaeda's strenght secret from YOU doesn't change the reality - THE STRATEGY FAILED. Further, no one in the CIA rank and file lies - YOU are insulting the integrity of the honest brokers who tell it like it is (maybe even in a bigoted way, whatever you mean by that; "Congratulations!")

Schneiderman – Clearly fast and loose with the truth, and you know it. Al Qaeda was never in Iraq before our invasion, and “Al Qaeda in Iraq” hasn’t the capacity or resource to “follow us home” and has its ambitions around Iraq for political gain. Yes, we have our reality today, and we have to deal with it – but the point is that if Bush/Cheney were sincere in saying that Iraq was about defeating Al Qaeda, then they pursued a strategy that is irrefutably disproven. Your points are utterly moot as they don’t address this.
Anthony S – Looks like you didn’t read about the intelligence report findings. Al Qaeda’s back is NOT against the wall in Pakistan – they have REBUILT. Buy a dictionary and get a textbook on tautology while you’re at it. You make it sound like Al Qaeda was in Iraq and we drove them out. Keep smoking whatever it is you smoke, just stay out of the voting booth.

Daniel – If you choose to see it that way, fine… but how, exactly, did this happen under Bush’s watch?! Surely you can’t be pleased?
A.S.E. – Aww, you’re proto-Nietzsche oratorical goose-stepping with elements of content manipulation and diversion from truth last seen in a Soviet politburo session are ADORABLE! You and MacKenzie will make a beautiful couple.

So you're saying we should attack Pakistan? Great, let's fire up the B-2s.
But seriously, I think you misunderestimate the strategery. We must separate extremism from petrodollars. It's just that simple. We have no choice. The longer we wait, the less of an advantage we have.
Who are we to judge? We're people who have a (legitimate) interest in self-preservation, the ability to take action, and (at one time) the will to see it through. And, we have more of an interest in peace and stability than any other country in the world, because with an economy twice as big as the next biggest, we benefit the most from those conditions. As well as secure oil supplies (that we just want to BUY, happily, at a price set in a free and open market). Funny, that doesn't sound like an evil empire.
So, this war is much, much bigger than al-Qaeda. Our strategery, I hope, includes the broader Middle East, with Iran being the last large easy target - and I wonder if you noticed that the Bumbler-in-Chief DID manage to encircle Iran. Large hard targets include our "allies," Pakistan (who has nukes) and Saudi Arabia (who most likely does).
If you think your knickers are in a twist now, check back in 10 or so years when we're STILL in the Middle East. We will always, always be in the Middle East. At least until the magic pixie dust that'll replace oil comes along.

By preliminary reports, the surge has been a tremendous success. I thank our military personnel every day for the efforts they make and the risks they take every day for our freedom.
Imagine how hard it must be to fight not just the enemy in Iraq and Iran and Syria, but to have to put up with criticism from losers who post idiotic questions on this forum. Losers who show complete and utter ignorance just by posting a question. How embarrassing they are to the rest of us.
Thank God these fools represents a small minority of miserable people that see nothing but misery around them and want to pass that misery on to others.
So far the Iraqi government has done more than the Democrat led congress in the same amount of time. We should be rewarding the Iraq government and kicking the Democrats out of office for their incompetence.
The Democrat led US Congress has the lowest rating in its history. Now that says it all !! Kick the bums out !

yet another question could be, if the surge labored, why is no one venturing exterior the fairway Zone? i in my opinion won't be able to have faith a number of the solutions. apparently they nevertheless have faith Bush's "project carried out" spiel from 5 yrs in the past. stunning. nicely, now that Iraq's national components have been privatized for Bush's oil acquaintances - formally on account that final month - and Iraq occurs to be a amazing launching platform for yet another conflict interior the middle East, i assume the U. S. is going to stay there till it is incredibly sucked dry.

Like a cancer, can you imagine how powerful they would be today if we were not fighting them?
Respectfully, are you really this blind? It wasn't just 9-11 and you know it.
Fight them over there. It is not perfect and the Iraqi people need to step up, but I would rather fight them in the desert than on Main St USA...again.
I think we should have a draft and finish the job.
lltrix...thanks for calling me out.
They were there, now there are more there. Using your logic, we should just leave them alone? How is that working for Madrid (Spain)? How is that working for Saudi Arabia? How is that working for nations in Africa?
Let's sit down with them and reason with them. Then let's free Charlie Manson from prison.
By the way, why are there never any answers or solutions? Why only criticism? If you really want change, be part of the solution. Be for something.

You libs better graps a better understanding of the U.S. military and war itself. We are pushing our enemies back to the wall. Yes, they are conered into Pakistan. No, we cannot invade Pakistan. We cannot risk a revolt against Musharraf, who...you guessed it, has nuclear weapons.
These terrorist aren't few, they've never been few. They are individuals who have indoctrinated since birth, they are an entire society, an ideal now. There numbers will grow, not because we are in the middle east, but because we share the same Earth as them.
They are an army, and it is a damn war. Why is that so hard to grasps? War is cruelty, the cruler it is fought, the quicker it will end.

LOL, You don't really think they will give you an answer that does anything other than call you names and insult you do you? They have nothing left but that.
Schneiderman.... They are growing despite our efforts. And, Al Queda wouldn't be in Iraq if we hadn't gone in there. Bush is giving them more and more excuses to recruit more potential and actual terrorists. Thanks for your effort at logic, but you didn't pass at all on this one.
