Captain Beefheart is fantastic. He has produced so much material, that it is hard to know where to begin. He spends most of his time now as a painter under his real name of Don van Vliet. Take a look at the folllowing link.

Yes..one of the great musical enigmas..bags of talent and creativity which was often misunderstood by those who could only listen with corporate ears! I think his albums and approach to music were unique, challenging and diverse...and so difficult to put in a genre box. His music does sound like an artist who has been given a blank canvass in which to create on. I play 'Trout' to people occasionally just to get their reaction..its either 'that sounds terrible' or 'wow , who is this guy..' That's it, I think you either appreciate his music it or don't.

Weird but very intriguing music. "Trout Mask Replica" is a classic.

Yeah, he's cool. Did you know that Frank Zappa dubbed him that coz he griped all the time. {To "beef" is American for "To complain"}
