would you know if you have hernia?

An umbilical hernia is a protrusion (outward bulging)of the abdominal lining, or a portion of abdominal organ(s), through the area around thenavel (belly-button).

Causes
The hernia generally appears as a soft swelling beneath the skin that often protrudes when the infant is upright, crying, or straining. Depending on the severity of the hernia, the area of the defect can vary in size, from less than 1 to more than 5 centimeters in diameter.

Symptoms
A soft protrusion over the umbilicus
May be flat when infant is on his back and quiet, but protrudes when upright, crying, or straining
Exams and Tests
A physical examination reveals the hernia.

Sounds like you may have a slight hernia. I'd check with a Dr. although they probably won't want to do anything about a small hernia.

Did you just get a piercing? That could be a sign of infection. Or there could be something wrong within the organs behind it. I'd get checked out, just to be safe. If you start getting symptoms like trouble breathing, fever, vomiting, or if you start to develop a rash, go to the emergency room.

hernia is a pretty good possibility, i agree with the others.

I would go get it checked out. Could be that your constipated, or it could mean something more serious. But anytime there is a change in your body that you are not comfortable with, the best bet is to have someone take a look at it. Better safe than sorry.

Either a hernia or appendicitis. The pain may start in that area then radiate to the right lower part of your tummy if it is your appendix.
