Although I am not a Roman Catholic, I cited Pope Benedict XVI as one of my personal heroes, a role model to look up to and revere. Pope Benedict XVI denounced other Christian communities as "either defective or not true churches." Moreover, Pope Benedict XVI have denounced other faiths. What is your opinion?

Disclaimer: I am not disrespecting His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, but I am totally shocked how he could go against landmark church reforms such as Vatican II.

I look forward to hear everyone's opinions, but please do not be offended. I am only curious, and want to know everyone's input.

Here is the full text of the new document that states nothing new: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html

Most Christian denominations believe that each of them is the fullest version of the Church of Christ.

While the Catholic Church also believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she does not claim that non-Catholic Churches are not truly Christian. The Catholic Church teaches:

Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.

Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.

All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

With love in Christ.

I do attend church, non demonational. I wrestle with What I feel is right against what the bible says. I live my life clean, I dont lie, steal or cheat and I believe in certain things that might not be considered right by the bible but I still think GOD will allow me into heaven.

I just think to many are placing their faith in this man when they should be placing it on GOD, this guy is telling people oh harry potter is evil, this is evil when the catholic church was evil for keeping their child molestors in circulation

I never respected him much to begin with. The man is an idiot.

Let's put it this way: I have been a Buddhist for years. I have recently made the decision to convert to Catholicism to marry my fiancee. I have now decided *screw that*, mostly because of the Pope and the narrow-mindedness of the church. The things they want me to go through to prove my worthiness to belong to their little club...um, no thanks. They want hundreds of dollars for me to get an annulment (even though I am legally divorced and have been for years) to be able to get married in their church, and I have to attend classes, counseling, and countless other ceremonies to prove I am good enough to belong to the church. To hell with that! I'm staying a Buddhist. I was a fool to want to abandon my beliefs in the first place just to be accepted by someone else.

The holocaust is a dismal spot of human historic past, as are many different comparable genocidal practices humankind has executed on its fellow variety. the undeniable fact that the Pope acknowledged it years after definitely everyone else already figured it out is irrelevent. EDIT: no count if or no longer Hitler replaced right into a Catholic is likewise irrelevent. He would have been boost as one, yet in spite of the undeniable fact that he replaced into, he replaced into an evil guy no longer representative of everyone group of individuals.

No, just as a Protestant I strongly disagree with him on this point. The "validity" of a church has absolutely nothing to do with its bishops or claim to apostolic succession IMO. The "church" is the entire body of believers, IMO, the various denominations are just sects within that church.

He can have his opinion. With all due respect, he's just a guy.

My relationship is with God. I haven't needed the pope before now, and nothing has changed.

I do find it interesting, though, that JP2 would never have said such a thing.

It's hard enough being Catholic and having others put down you're religion. Now we have to deal with people thinking we're elitists.

I never had much respect for him. I do not respect people who were once associated with the Nazi party.
