I talked to the manager of a decent japanese restaurant and asked if I could work in the establishment. He was quick to say yes and it shocked me. He told me that I will start this Friday. He explained the uniform code that i should follow and set me up with a mentor. Because it all went too fast, and it was my FIRST job, i forgot to ask for the hourly wage... I think the manager assumed that I would work for minimum wage, which is what $6.67(FL)? I was expecting more of around $7.50 per hour. What should i do/say and when is the best time to do it?

Minimum wage for restaurant workers is less than minimum if you are a tipped employee.
Ask at the end of your first shift and armed with the answer and how much you enjoyed the work will be the answer to wheather or not you go back.

Honestly, as a hiring manager, I'd assume if it's your first job and you're a busboy you'll be getting minimum, unless you specifically discussed this in your interview. I'm assuming you didn't since you forgot to ask about pay.

The easiest way is just go ask your boss. We're fairly understanding with things like that, especially if it's your first job. Many people forget things in the interview. It's a pretty nerve-wracking experience for a lot of people.

Wow, I just went ot florida last year and they said that minimum wage was $5.50/hr. I guess it went up. You should either call and tell the manager that you were so excited to get the job you forgot to ask how much it pays an hour or wait till you go in to do it.

Do you know that the waitress should slip you a little something for taking extra special care of their tables?
