It does this tsshhhhhh sound for like 3 seconds, about once every hour.

Additional details: it also has a barely detectable trickling all the time. I think it's trying to refill itself maybe?

Other than that, it works perfectly fine. No leaks or anything. Do I tighten some valve or something to get it to stop, or is this normal?

Give the 10 to RealBohemian. That's certainly the first thing to check, and likely the only cause.

That is the leak. With the lid off, look in the tank, now flush and watch what happens. You will see a "flapper"valve lift and the water go down a big hole. Once the water is almost gone the flapper falls over the hole again closing it up, allowing the tank to refill.
Flush again and this time grab the flapper with your hand and with the pointer finger of the other hand feel the contact surface of the flap to make sure there is no grunge there. Also while holding the flap up, run your finger around the opening that the flapper covers to wipe off any grunge or slime.
Now drop the flapper and allow it to refill and see if it will shut up.
If you noticed that the flapper rubber is torn or cracked, got to replace with another flap from Walmart or someplace like that.
This sucker is suppose to hold the water permanently.

Most likely your flap is not tight. This will make the toilet run to refill itself as the water slowly leaks out. It could be that your chain on the flusher is not quite long enough and keeps the flap up a little or that the flap just needs to be replaced due to age or disintigration. If you use any type tank cleaner product that contains bleach it will disintigrate your flapper as it is rubber. Flaps are very cheap at a home supply store and easy to install yourself. There are directions on the back of the package. There are basically just two types. If you want to take your flap to the store to compare types, turn off the water valve on the water supply line behind the toilet before you take it out. Good luck.

the barely trickling is a leak you have. the level goes down in the tank since the leak is like filling up the bowl of the toilet. When the H2O is down in the tank, it calls for the water to replenish the tank to help maintain the level.

Go to Lowes and get a new kit to install or find someone to help with the flapper adjustment to keep a seal.

You need a new flapper valve.

Get a kit that replaces everything inside the tank, chances are the rest of the stuff is ready to go as well anyway.

The kits come with very easy to follow instructions.
