After seeing the movie today, and reading the book, there is a prophecy saying basically that in the end, Harry has to kill Voldemort or visa versa. What I do not understand was why Voldemort was after Harrys prophecy? What does he gain by having it?

OK, this is a spoiler's answer: DO NOT READ ON IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW. Enough said. Now you CANNOT REPORT me, because I warned you.
Severus Snape was the Death Eater who overheard part of the prophecy. If he hadn't informed Voldemort about the part that he DID hear, Voldemort wouldn't have gone after the Potters. Don't you see? Voldemort MARKED HARRY AS HIS EQUAL by seeing him as a threat. The only reason that the prophecy is true, is because Voldemort tried to kill Harry. If that hadn't happened, Voldemort would have thrived and flourished and been literally invincible.

Voldemort was after the prophecy because, as previously mentioned, he only heard part of it. He wanted to hear the rest because that would give him a better idea as to how to triumph over Harry. However, while "neither can live while the other one survives" it never says that they both can't die.

Snape overheard Trelawney giving the prophecy, but he didn't overhear the whole thing. So he told Voldemort what he'd heard. When Voldemort realized there had to be more to it, he wanted to find out exactly what was said.

He pretty much just wanted to know what it said.
As Dumbeldore explains, he only heard part of the prophecy the first time around.

Yeah.

He knew there was a large significance to it to. He knew he only heard a portion of it... and by not hearing the rest of it... he lost his powers.

I'd want to know the rest of it, too, after that.
