the best way I get rid of ants is to sprinkle bi carb soda around. If you can find their trail, sprinkle the bi-carb along the trail as well. Put some in the corners near the windows and doors (leading outside) too

The first thing you have to do is take away their favorite snack´s which is sugar , jam, all sweet thing´s keep cakes in tight lidded container´s , put food in the fridge as soon as you have finished with it. Also they eat any small crumbs that have been dropped. so try and keep the kitchen floor as clean as possible, If you can find out where they are coming from. Put black pepper in and and around the entrance to their tunnels, They will carry this in to where the egg-laying queen is. and she will them move the ant´s out. Just be careful , if you have children or pet´s . Corner this area off if you can. They will soon move on ACHOO!

Whenever she has an ant problem, my grandmother sprinkles some cloves in the areas where they seem to be coming in. They're supposed to repel ants. And it's safe (no chemicals to worry about) and cheap and smells good so it's probably worth a try.

try laying out some cloves of Garlic in your cabinets and on the counter and maybe you can go around the edge of the carpet and sprinkle cheap garlic powder. your house may smell like something good is cooking but garlic has a natural toxin to ant and they know it, but it is safe enough to eat, it sounds like you have a maple tree hanging over your house and they could be coming in from the roof.

Traps help. So does borax acid, eat's holes in them. Try and find where they come in and caulk the cracks and holes. There are insectisides available but not many are recommended for use in a kitchen. Try and locate their nest outside and give them a good dose there.

You can really only get rid of them with an exterminator because you have to find the way they are coming in. Any other methods are only taking them away temporarily. Find their source, kill them and they are gone. Get an exterminator.
