A dealer bought a phonograph for P160.00. For how many pesos must he mark it so that after deducting 10% of the marked price he may sell at a profit of 12-1/2 % of the cost.

Hi,

He will need to mark it for P200.

That's because 12½% more than P160 is 1.125(160) = 180.
If P180 is the sale price after a 10% discount then .90x = 180.
x solves to 200, so the sticker price needs to be P200.

To double check, .90(200) = 180.
If 1.125p = 180, then p = 160.

I hope that helps!! :-)

Hello

He wants to sell it for 160 * 1.125 = 180.
Now he must mark it at 90%p = 180 so we have p = 180/90% = 200.

Hope This Helps!!
