Check your library for a copy of "Retirement Places Rated", by David Savageau (mine is copyrighted 1990, a little bit old). Another suggestion, Sperlings Best Places at www.bestplaces.net.
Both the book and the website rate retirement places based on cost of living (Arizona is HIGH), educational opportunities, health care, parttime job availability, weather, climate, etc.

florida because of the weather. i recently read gainesville, fl is the # 1 place for retirees. i guess because of the university and hospital. i personally think the SW coast of florida near sarasota, fl is a great choice. also there are lots of $$$ retirees moving to the panhandle section of florida but they have hurricanes there so i would not go. melbourne, fl is popular too but most of the east coast of florida is getting expensive. why not retire in latin america? costa rica, mexico and the caribbean are popular and the dollar goes very far.
