Firefox is the best, it is the most customizeable one, Safari isn't even in full retail version yet and it was originally designed for Apple. Opera is safe, but I'm more used to the slightly noticeable speed difference in my firefox and I like all my customized extensions as well

Its really a matter of opinion. IE and Firefox are the most popular. Some people are major Firefox fans, others don't really care. IE will work with most any webpage, and if a webpage has browser-specific instructions, it will more than likely be IE compatible. For performance, its Firefox. Firefox is small, fast, open-source, and cross platform. Opera, while still being a mainstream browser, is a good IE replacement, for those times when IE refuses to work! :)

Depends on how you use your browser.
Mozilla Firefox
-Usefull add ons which are directly accessable via your browser, such as a proxie switcher.
Very secure, and easy to customize features.
IE7
-Very Compatible with most webpages.
IE5/6
-Some people like to use earlier versions of IE to test compatibilty, this would mainly be practiced in web development.
Very insecure, and for some reason allows a lot of viruses on contact.
Opera
-Some Very useful methods of viewing a webpage, I find the unique view source feature very effective, especially in web development.
Personally i prefer firefox, its very easy to tweak, and provides a light browser, when needed.
However i do keep IE7 for compatibilty reasons.

i would recommend firefox, but that's just based on personal preference. the reason i like firefox is because it is secure and crashes less often (in my experience). it's also a bit more convenient when it comes to downloading files. plus, you can find thousands of different skins for it online, so you can keep it looking however you want. also, there are thousands of add-ons that you can download that add different features.
it works great for me. you should visit the websites of all the web browsers and read about them and see what will work for you. and nothing beats trying them out :). good luck!

Firefox and don't install any toolbars, and make sure that you have a good anti-virus, firewall and anti-spyware installed.
