I cant believe your even asking this. Alice In Chains. The talent involved in both bands is quite good to say the least. However I find the songwriting to be far superior with AIC. The musical landscape created by AIC is second to none. The mood, the layering, the riffs, the harmonies, the dissonance is all used with a skill I have yet to discover elsehwere. Soundgarden is more mainstream type song format. (At least when compared to AIC) Alice In Chains have had a HUGE effect on rock as we know it today. Some subtle, some no so subtle. They have been copied and mimicked and mirrored and an influence on the styles of plenty of music today. Give AIC's "Dirt" a listen on headphones with the lyric sheet in hand and feel the pain of addiction through audio and lyrical emotion. Thanks for reading til the end of my rant!!

You know, I love Alice in Chains - really, I loved them from the first minute I heard them. And, I think they are very cute, but sometimes they depress even me! Which is saying something, considering Bauhaus makes me happy.

Anyway, Alice in Chains, definitely. Soundgarden, well, they're fine I guess...

lastmanonearth's correct--> i have only 3 a.i.c cd's-->dirt,sap,& facelift and no soundgarden cd's but i like soundgarden because of chris cornell's voice which makes me squirm everytime i hear him and especially the song--hands all over from the louder than love cd and jerry cantrell can sing and get down on hist guitar like nobody's business especially when he sounds angry just take a listen 2 the song

Definitely Alice in Chains. The dual vocals and more talented guitar player make them much better.

Wow...tuffy for sure. I love both bands. If I had to choose I would go with Soundgarden, because Chris Cornell has yell like none other and he's versatile. Also he's not dead like Layne so I'll have to go with Soundgarden!

Alice in Chains were the total real deal. I can listen to them now and it doesn't seem dated.
