You could have a yeast infection - yep, you can get them in your butthole too! You can get a topical cream to treat that at the pharmacy,
If you mainly notice the itching at night then you probably have something like threadworms. You can get treatment for that at the pharmacy too.

i know i read in a magazine once that if you dont dry off all the way after a shower or keep that area dry after working out and what not it turns in to some what of a infection/rash, i used to get it alot, if you wear thongs either dont wear underwear for a few days or switch to boyshorts for a few days to keep anything from irritating it more and buy some summer's eve anti-itch gel. always works for me.

So, we know that it's not your laundry detergent. Wash it. Maybe it's because you don't wash your butt after your waste. If this is not the problem, then go to your doctor

Make sure you wash well when taking a shower, and consider switching toilet paper.
In the meantime use an antibiotic cream, like Lanabiotic, or some other cream, available at any drugstore, to help in case you have irritation. (from scratching)

you may have a slight rash, you can have yourself checked out or get some cream that might reduce the itch (maybe an antihistamine cream) or use some triple antibiotic ointment (neosporin)

You could have a small hemorrhoid. Try some of those wipes made by tucks, that should help.

Does you have any small children in your house? They can bring home worms (kids play in dirt and put thier hands in thier mouth) and they are contagious.
