America was based on a puritan society. These morals were instilled in us at an early age. Look at me assuming you are from America. Well besides, that is my excuse.

Like your first respondent said, American culture has inherited a Calvinist value system which put forward that sexual pleasure is sinful and sex should only be for reproduction. But some don't believe that the pleasure is the sin but sex before marriage.
From one perspective it could just be total ignorance and superstition.
From another it could be the desire for ultimate control over others.
But still another could be another which comes from Calvinism, that of the work ethic. Perhaps this started as a way for parents to keep their children from pleasuring themselves, because an allowance to such would, logically, lead to an allowance to pleasure oneself as often as one liked or with whoever or whatever one liked and this isn't very "productive" for life, society, culture, etc...
As far as being DIFFERENT... hmm, might need more specifics on that one. There's nothing wrong with being different, but you must realize that the majority of people are afraid of that which is different. Comfortable people like comfort in their comfy environs, with their comfy ideas, and their comfy conformity.
Of course there are limitations to differences though, I mean if you want to get technical, Charles Manson is... "different!" But nobody likes THAT kind of difference except the differentee.

I'm sure you have read the reasons against the indulgence those reasons were given to keep us free from those forms of slavery, it would be a duty to at least inform others who contemplate going into such a slavery that it will keep you bound and in a servitude you can not escape by your own strength. I would not attempt to tell you that you can not do those things you have a will which gives you that choice, I will ask that you consider hearing the true testimonies of those who have been trapped in that bondage to at least inform yourself with the knowledge available to you.

Religious brainwashing. They don't want us to be happy in this life because their fairytale afterlife would be less desirable. Read the dogmas of all religions and you will see that pleasure, of any sort, is looked down upon. Except maybe for the Pagans and some Gnostics.

Most modern religions do not want you to enjoy your life. They want you to suffer and be in pain, because, according to them, this will make you holy. Earlier religions were very open to sex, masturbation and people's bodies in general. They were not ashamed of the bodies the gods had created. It is really unfortunate that we think that the newer religions are better. How is that?

Because for many, sin is understood as the failure to accept or integrate oneself into a given system of convictions which is viewed as universal in its application to humanity.

I don't agree at all, in fact I don't believe in "sin," & you've gotten some very comprehensive answers. But since we're in philosopy, let's put it this way. They could very well ask why some people DON'T think this, right?
