I work at a zoo camp for kids and was looking up crafts online and was wondering if hot gluing felt was secure enough to close pieces together? I wanted to make these frog bean bag things and it said to use hot glue to close it up, but i'm not sure if that's secure. I don't want the kids going home and playing with the frog and it breaking and having the beans go everywhere. I was also thinking of stapling.

Staples are worse because they can be pulled out and swallowed by kids.

There are many kinds of hot melt glue. Some are just for temporary tacking. Others are secure enough to hold together parts of your car or your furniture. They were originally invented to hold shoes together and that is a tough application. Go to a large craft store or to a large hardware store that carries a variety of glues and choose one that is so strong the material will rip before the glue comes off.

The hot glue will hold the edges together. If pulled to try to tear apart, the felt will tear away from the glued edges but the glued edges will still be together. I would be most concerned about how big the beans are and the ages of the kids recieving the frogs and any siblings in the home that might choke on them. You could use rice. Also, the kids will love them! They will not be trying to tear them apart~ although they may toss them around...they will likely be found whole, with no tears several years from now with little dust bunnies under the bed or tucked away safely on a shelf somewhere. Have fun!

not it is not secure. hot glue guns really only work for gluing plastic beads onto wood. the felt will come apart in a few minutes if they even stay together at all.
i would use the stapler. just a few at the top should do it. less messy too.

Since children will be using them, I would recommend sewing them closed. Hot glue, if used, will be a rather hard feeling seam. Please DO NOT staple.
