My deities are Hades and Demeter,
But there is that kind of invocation I read about, that you can see the God/Goddess via visualization if I remember correctly...

Which Deity, now?

I've been practicing Wicca for 13 years and was trained Gardnerian, and I've never heard that Deity invocation on the whole is a dangerous activity, provided you are simply inviting the God/dess to be present in your circle and to bless your rites. Provided you are acting with respect and have acquainted yourself with the God/dess in question, I see no danger in doing so -- just keep in mind that "darker" God/desses should be approached with caution and treated with care.

The activity called "drawing down the moon (or sun)", where one invites the Goddess (or God) to descend into their mind and body and "possess" them, is a different story -- it takes preparation and training, since it can leave you shaken and dissociated if not done properly.

Invocation is an appeal/prayer or petition to a higher power and inviting that higher power to aid in positive, ritual work. Invocation contacts an entity which is spiritually superior to the practitioner, so such an entity cannot be commanded to do anything for the practitioner. The person states the request for help along with the person’s sincerity, purity and spiritual intent. Invocation is a method of establishing a conscious connection with higher powers. This is what is done everytime we cast a circle, call to the Four Quarters and draw down the moon. As long as you follow the Wiccan rede “and harm none” this is not dangerous. This is what Wiccans do.

On the other hand, evocation involves calling up spirits or other nonphysical entities by way of manipulation, coercion, threats and force, in order to get the entity to join in the ritual work—whether the entity wants to or not. This is extremely dangerous work and is NOT a Wiccan practice. I repeat, this is NOT a Wiccan practice.

Prairiecrow had a great answer. You should be okay with invocation. Try the Deity you are comfortable with and what feels safe to you.

In general - its not.

In specific to Hades AND Demeter - they are mortal enemies and that might bring serious conflict to your circle.

You would think twice before inviting two of your friends to the same function if you knew they HATED each other, no?
