I'm looking to buy a new video card and needed help figuring out what to go for. I'm looking at the X1650 Pro in AGP format. Newegg.com has several. My question is should I go for the card with GDDR3, even though it has lower core clock and memory clock speeds, or go for a card with GDDR2 with higher clock speeds?

Here's Neweggs.com's cards:

Okay there are some problems with these specs, let me explain them. The ones that say GDDR2 memory with 1380Mhz memory clock speed are mislabeled somehow, because GDDR2 simply does not clock that high, not even close. So either it is actually GDDR3 memory, or the speed is listed wrong. I went to several of the manfucturers websites, and I really couldn't get a definitive answer (even the ATI website, and they are the damn people that make the GPU). Before purchasing any of these cards, I would contact the card manufacturer via email to verify what the actual specs are, you don't want to pay for something you are not getting.

One of the biggest things you'll want to look for is the memory interface, the larger the better. A low end card will have a 64 bit bus, which will hinder performance. The Newest high end ATI has a 512 bit interface, but will cost you a good chunk of change. Amount of RAM is also a big factor, again the the larger the better.

Forget memory type.

That is just a small portion of the overall performance of the card. The memory type will not have any effect on you being able to play newer games or not.

Take a look at this link:

Base your decision on the card that performs best in your price range for the type of game you want to play.

Look at the chart in the Source Section below. Buy the fastest one you can afford. Ignore the DDR2 vs DDR3 debate and focus on the ACTUAL results of the charts.
