I was convicted of 2 misdemeanors in Dec of 2006, served prison time, attended a 21 day rehab and I am currently on probation for the next 2 years. I have been applying for jobs like crazy,go on the interviews, impress my prospective employer but then comes the background check and thats where it goes sour. I was addicted to OxyContins. I am not anymore but I feel that my life is still being negitively effected, which in essence effects my children. I so badly want a normal life and a normal job. I am a good person but I don't feel anyone sees me as "good" anymore. Any advice???

Only felons go to prison. You must have done jail time.

Your best chances are connections your probation officer might have or family and friends.

Finally, do restaurant work. They rarely do background checks and are more forgiving of such cases.

Also point out that you were not convicted of theft or violence.
That is a plus.
good luck

Start a business on look at companies that don't do background checks. How can you be on probation when you have been in prison wouldn't that be parole. Between Dec 06 and now when you had rehab seem pretty short for prison they should have kept you in county jail for that.
Assuming you really belief you want to stay clean you are probably going to NarcAnon ask the people there for advice they must be facing the same problems at least those that got caught.

Try signing up with a temporary agency. The problem is that so many people want to work that employers don't need to hire someone who can't pass the background check. Considering employers are now checking driving records; I would say that you are less employable than average. Contact your rehab center and see if they have job placement service or something.

If you know that you have made progress and it can be verified by a doctor or whoever is helping you get a document that support you.

Maybe a company letter of a health care provider that support your progress especially from your doctor.

Talk to family and friends also.

Stay with people that will support no matter what you have done.

I wish you the best !!! !
