Not sure, but it could be ordinary mold from the organic material in the soil. I know that my compost pile and mulch pile will occasionally grow a white powdery mold when conditions are extra moist or humid which is just part of the decomposition process. I'm guessing that is what is happening in the soil. Probably due to excess moisture. Should be fine.

Are you talking about after you water your plants, and after awhile(months), a white powder forms on the top of the soil/pot. What that is, is the minerals that are dissolved in the tap water, and when the water evaporates, it leaves behind the minerals, forming the white powder.

Small white ball looking things?? Water retention devices....allows less water....white powderish stuff?? Simple Compost throw-off...Pay no attention...this is the simple explanation.

Its perlite :) and its incredibly a volcanic rock, and as for eating it? nicely... i don't probable comprehend yet i would not advise it haha :) and you would be able to incredibly destroy them aside which incorporate your hands :)
