Researchers have used 1part milk to 9 parts water in controlling fungus. Milk has a germicidal effect, it kills the fungal spores, & also stimulates plants in such a way that they become more resistant to the disease. In recent university tests, the milk and water spray was found to be more effective than the two most popular synthetic fungicides on the market today.

Mix a handful of cornmeal in the soil around your rose bushes to control fungal diseases like black spot. Cornmeal controls diseases by providing and stimulating existing beneficial microorganisms that feed on pathogens.

This site explains why alternating a 1oz Baking Soda to 1gal. water solution, 1 oz. vinegar to 1 gal water, and 1oz Sulphur to 1gal water helps control fungus.

Jerry Baker's homemade control for Black spot: Spray them with a mixture of 1 tbsp. of baking soda, 1 tbsp. of light vegetable oil, and 1 tbsp. of soap in 1 gallon of water.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

Here is what I've been trying this season and it seems to be working. In 1 gallon of water add 3 table spoons of Apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon of dish soap, and 1 teaspoon of canola oil. Remove all the nasty leaves and debris around the rose including the mulch. Spray tops and bottoms of remaining leaves every 4-7 days.

Here is another from Paul James Master gardener:
1tsp baking soda
1tsp horticulture oil
1tsp insecticidal soap
in 1 quart of water
spray weekly

If the vinegar solution does not work then I will be using this solution.

Milk only works on powdery mildew, not black spot.
Good luck

I spray them with daconil, its an anti-fungal you can get at home depot. pull off any leaves that have spots on them and throw them in the trash, then spray the rest of the bushes.
