Go through as many files as you can and delete what you don't need. Go into control panel and go to add and remove programs. Delete what you don't need. Also, go into your C Drive and do a disk clean up. (Right click on the C Drive and click on properties) It should help :)

If all you use is AIM and browse the internet, what do you need a lot of space for?

Set folder properties to "compress to save space" Look under advanced attributes and check the box on big folders.
Note: if you compress the C-drive you will be compressing the folder where the operating system resources live and your performance will suck. This would be a really dumb idea.

Set the browser cache to the smallest amount it will let you.
In Internet Explorer look under Tools --->Internet Options

you can always compress your c drive-
go to drive, right click, and click 'properties' and check box 'compress this drive to save space'.

Personally, i run cleanup to delete unused files, or junk files, then defrag. 'add or remove' to get rid of old programs.
