Hi,
I was recently diagnosed with Hypo and my dr. wanted to put me on Synthroid. I say NO WAY and have since heard of two "natural" remedies to take. One is called Metabolic Thyro (over the counter), and the other is Armour (natural prescription)...does anyone know anything about these and the difference, goods/bads? I am desperate for a solution without crazy side affects so any advice is greatly appreciated!!

I’m sure you are well aware that there’s no shortage of information on the internet, especially when it comes to Hypothyroidism.

The good news is that all of this information helps to bring much needed awareness to Hypothyroidism and the DEVASTATING effects it can have on your life.
But what if I told you that 95% of hypothyroidism sufferers, like yourself, are using treatment options that are actually causing more harm than good… making you more hypothyroid every day?
Why?

Because they are based entirely on misinformation instead of sound and scientific research.

The real question is… How can you protect yourself from this misinformation and from becoming just another one of these 95% of sufferers who are doing it all wrong?
Well, I just found this great hypothyroidism resource which will really help clear up the confusion for you. The following video I’m about to share with you contains a lot of great information on how to naturally overcome hypothyroidism by stopping it directly at the source.

The best part is that it’s actually based on scientific research… Scientific research that I will bet that you have never even seen before.

One contains the thyroid hormones T1, T2, T3, & T4 that the body needs, where the other does not contain these hormones. One is regulated by the FDA and the other is not. If you are hypothyroid, go with the Armour and at least you know exactly what you are getting has met strict inspections. I've been on Armour for 4+ years and it is working great. Armour links below.

There are some supplements that can help with the conversion of T4 into T3, but you should get on the medication first and then use them if still needed.

Armour thyroid tablets are consided to be a natural thyroid supplement. Desiccated (dried) thyroid is thyroid hormone derived from pig's thyroids. It contains both of the main thyroid homones T4 and T3, and also the lesser known homones T3 and T2.

Most synthetic thyroid homones only contain T4, such as Synthroid.

For many people, synthetic medications work fine but for other people synthetic medications didn't or don't relieve all of their symptoms, while desiccated thyroid does.

I haven't heard of Metabolic Thyro but you could do a web search on this by looking up "metabolic thyro" and "side effects of metabolic thyro". The only problem I can think of with and over the counter thyroid program is that you would have to monitor your results by yourself, which is not impossible to do.

Research all of the alternatives so you have the knowledge to make the choice that will best suit your needs. Personally, I would start with the natural choices.

Natural Treatments

* Kanchanara - Bauhinia veriegata (purple mountain ebony) is mainly useful for functioning of thyroid. Other herbs like jatamansi, brahmi guggulu, shilajita, gokshura, punarnava are some of the other useful herbs.
* You can try this home remedy which may help your problem. Make a fine paste of vegetable jalakumbhi (Pistia Straticies) to be applied over your neck to reduce the swelling.
* Coconut oil has fatty acid chains which may help to improve your metabolism.

Alternative treatments are primarily aimed at strengthening the thyroid and will not eliminate the need for thyroid hormone medications. Herbal remedies to improve thyroid function and relieve symptoms of hypothyroidism include bladder wrack (Fucus vesiculosus), which can be taken in capsule form or as a tea. Some foods, including cabbage, peaches, radishes, soybeans, peanuts, and spinach, can interfere with the production of thyroid hormones. Anyone with hypothyroidism may want to avoid these foods.
The Shoulder Stand yoga position (at least once daily for 20 minutes) is believed to improve thyroid function.

Yoga

* You can try yoga which has been effective even before the existence of medical science. Sarvangasana (shoulder stand) can be a very suitable asana to help your thyroid gland. The pressure applied on the gland provides the necessary boost to the thyroid gland. Once you have done sarvangasana you should perform matsyasana, also beneficial to improve your thyroid gland.
* These asanas should not be practiced if you are suffering from severe thyroitoxicosis or enlarged goiter. You can include Surya Namskara, Pavamuktasana to help you with this problem. One of the best ways to deal with thyroid problems is to practice Ujjayi Pranayama.

A herbal tea made with coconut oil:
ONE LARGE MUG
2 BAGS OF LIPTON CARMEL TRUFFLE TEA
ONE TBSP EVCO [Extra Virgin Coconut Oil]
ONE TBPS BLACK STRAP MOLASSES
ONE HALF TO ONE TBSP HONEY

POUR BOILING WATER OVER THE INGREDIENTS IN MUG AND STIR GENTLY WHILE STEEPING TO MELT THE COCONUT OIL.

I have thyroid probs and the consensus among the people I've talked to is that Armour is amazing. Most people I talk to are taking Armour and supplimenting it with Synthroid. I do not think you should take anything over the counter and not regulated by your doctor. Its too easy to mess this stuff up.
