If there are threats to hurt people in the UK, because of this stupid knighthood (what did he get it for?) then I think before a drop of blood is spilled in Britain, he should refuse to accept his 'honour'? He's cost the taxpayer a fortune already, in protection over the years.

That's a very cowardly attitude! Salman simply exercised his freedom of expression and we should uphold that. He's a prize winning novelist and he deserves a Knighthood.

If we cower in the face of religious extremists then authors will know that Britain is a second rate country and they'll go and live in America where people aren't afraid to fight for freedom. Most Brits are not cowards and they want to stand up against Islamist threats so you are unusual.

No, extremists will find other excuses if it is not Rushdie. It is mistake to think Rushdie should some how step away from this to avoid extremists' anger. It is outrageous that people are willing to kill other people over written texts. That's where the problem is, not Rushdie's book or other form of free speech.

That would be cowardice. It's OK for you to be a coward and give in to these hysterical people but he is a public figure and courageous enough to make a stand against a primitive religion.
As for the cost of protection, he has probably paid more taxes than you ever will

That's exactly what the terrorist want from all of us. NO, Rushdie must accept it and show the terrorists that life is not going to be their way, no matter their threats, and/or no matter the consequences.

Your quite right. People who have done something for the society should be given knighthoods and awards not those who have been a burden to the society. I think he should be extradited to IRAN. They would love to have him at the dinner table.

Salman Rushdie is only thinking of what is good for him, not for you. Muslims are not given to altruistic gestures.

As a gesture of good will towards the Brits I think he should refuse it but he should make sure he tells everyone that He still believes in Free Speech and will not be bullied or silenced !! Everyone has the right to their opinion!!
