Forget git, power hungry traitor fits a lot better. One of the early signs in the series of this comes in the fourth chapter of Chamber of Secrets when Percy is seen reading a book entitled "Prefects Who Gained Power," which is all about prefects from Hogwarts and what they became after leaving the school. Ron even tells Harry Percy wants to be Minister of Magic some day. Since the Minister of Magic seems to be the top position within the Ministry of Magic in Britian, and thusly over the entire British wizarding community, that would make him politically one of the most powerful wizards.

After leaving Hogwarts he's first made secretary to Crouch in the Department of International Magical Cooperation, and he failed to notice anything wrong with his boss. He should have alerted someone when his boss was "sick" far too often, but because he believed Crouch was trusting him so much, the pompus Percy said nothing. And he does get in trouble for his failure when the ministry realizes Crouch was under the imperius curse.

Despite his failure, which should have dropped him down within the ministry to a department of lesser importance (like maybe a secretary in the Official Gobstones Club section of the Department of Magical Games and Sports) he finds himself suddenly elevated to being Fudge's secretary. A position his parent's rightfully believed he was given so as to spy on them and thusly maybe gain some knowledge of Dumbledore's movements. But as far as the power hungry fool is concerned that couldn't be further from the truth.

Prior to the Fudge and the Ministry slandering Dumbledore's name he's never had reason to mistrust him. For that matter he may know Harry is a bit adventurous and disobeys at times, but he's never lied about what's happened in his adventures once it gets out what really happened. But it could cost him his job to actually believe them and side with them. He doesn't even stop to think that he could side with them and not tell Fudge the truth. No he's got to believe they (Harry and Dumbledore), and anyone who sides with them, are trying to cause a panic. Anyone who sides with them is clearly a criminal, lets forget all about the fact that the Ministry is being criminally negligible by lieing to the wizarding community when they claim Voldemort is not back. They are putting the entire wizarding community in danger by making such claims when they could be trying to find a way to actually protect the wizarding community, or at least preparing them for what to do should they think their targetted by Voldemort and the Death Eaters.

Fudge looses the position of Minister of Magic because he was slandering those who actually were getting the warning out. But Scrimgeour keeps Percy on as his secretary, this time because he knows the Weasley's are close to Harry. He want's Harry to be the Ministry poster boy, telling everyone what a good job they are protecting them against Voldemort. Sure he can stop by the Burrow to supposedly congratulate Mr. Weasley, but stoping by with Percy works better.

But even under Scrimgeour Percy fails to truely see that he's being used. As far as he's concerned, he's got his current job because of his importance and what he can do, not because of who he is and whom he knows. He's in a position of minor importance, but to him it's just a few steps away from becoming the next Minister of Magic. And that's all he cares about.

Oh, he's a definite git. I mean, your career and ambition should be a high priority in your life, but your family should be even MORE important!
And you know that letter he writes to Ron in the 5th book? So freakin' condescending of him.

EDIT I can't even imagine being so horrible to my own parents! I think I would commit suicide from guilt if I behaved the way he does!

Hes got brothers, a sister a loving mom and dad. And percy just goes and throws that all in their face. He's a selfish f*cker as well. Oooo...........he riles me.
I was wathing the first film when it was on tv the other day, and as soon as i saw him on screen, i instinctivel yelled '****' at the tv.

Percy is Superman in spite of everything lol. i admire them the two and that i won't be in a position to decide for between Lucius and Sirius. i will %. Dobby over Kreacher tho, Dobby is one in all my sought after characters.

i think percy is a little misguided in his values. maybe comes from all those honors at hogwarts prefect head boy his head swole up and someone needs to come along with a pin and let the air out so he'll treat his family better.
